February 2019: Roggen Management Consultants has completed our survey of 2019 ownership and operating costs for typical newspaper delivery vehicles utilized by the Washington Post’s independent delivery agents and their contracted carriers.

The results of this ongoing annual survey provide one of several guidelines utilized in negotiating equitable rates for contracted delivery of the Washington Post to both subscriber homes and single copy points of sale.

Mark Roggen assists small New England airport with implementation of business and capital improvements

March 2018: Calling on his aviation knowledge as a commercial instrument rated pilot and prior consulting experience in preparing the master financial plans for several municipally operated Northeastern airports, Mark Roggen assisted a small privately owned New England airport by assuming the role of Interim Business Manager between October 2017 and February 2018 and providing help with implementation of required business and capital improvements.

On the business side, the project included resolving data entry issues affecting the airport’s accounting and flight scheduling systems, restructuring company organization, adjusting pricing as required to assure profitability, identifying needed business improvements, and facilitating planning for future community events at the airport.

Assistance with the airport’s capital improvement program included clearing multiple hurdles involved in removing and replacing an underground 20,000‑gallon steel avgas tank with a double-walled, multi-fuel, fiberglass replacement, and presenting a Capital Improvement Plan to the state DOT Aeronautics Division resulting in an initial grant for installation of a Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) System, along with funding for other projects still in the works.

Mark Roggen Assists Small Town Technology Committee in Planning for High Speed Internet

May 2017:  Over a 10-month period, as a member of the Town Technology Committee, Mark Roggen has assisted the small town of Egremont, Massachusetts in selecting the best of several competing bidders for design, construction, and operation of a town-wide broadband Internet network, including consideration of available State grant monies and associated technical support.  

This political and technical process also reviewed the pros and cons of a municipally owned broadband network, and included preparation of RFPs, evaluation of submitted proposals, navigation of a continuously evolving State Grant Program, plus preparation of successful grant applications.

RMC completes fleet replacement study for the Minneapolis Star Tribune

October 2014: Roggen Management Consultants has successfully completed our study to establish an effective gameplan and timeline for required replacement of the Star Tribune bulk delivery fleet, consisting of four highway tractors, 25 straight trucks, 38 step vans and six small delivery vans.

The project included assessment of the age and condition of all existing delivery units, determination of the optimal number and mix of vehicles required for future operations, development of a prioritized vehicle replacement schedule, and support in development of a five year capital spending plan to finance the purchase of new delivery vehicles.

RMC supports Publishers Circulation Fulfillment (PCF) in the initial marketing of their cloud based logistics software

January 2013 – February 2015: Over a two-year period Roggen Management Consultants provided technical and sales support for the launch and early marketing of PCF’s cloud based route management software. 

This subscription based online service processes nightly subscriber lists to create new and efficient multi publication delivery routes, allowing publishers and distributors to simultaneously reduce distribution costs, while adding new revenue streams through delivery of multiple print products on variable frequencies. 

In addition to actual route creation, the package offers multiple route management and support tools including daily route books with turn-by-turn driving instructions, e‑Contracting for independent contractor documents, and real-time vehicle tracking.
